Grave of Winston Churchill, Bladon, England

This is the old monument on Churchill’s grave, placed after his death in 1965.  The marble was replaced by granite in the late 1990s, much to the extreme displeasure of the Churchill Society in London.  It’s worth reading their criticism:

Church planned his own funeral.  He turned down burial in London, choosing to be buried with his family in the yard of the church of Bladon-with-Woodstock, but his body lay in state of Westminster Hall in London, before the funeral was performed at St. Paul’s Cathedral.  From there, it taken to Tower Pier and sailed up the Thames to Waterloo Station, then put on the train to be taken home.
